Diva of the year Lita struts her stuff in WWF Insurrextion - exclusively live this month on Sky Box Office
Students of wrestling may be familiar with such terms as a ‘Half Nelson’ or ‘Giving in yet?’ Now a new expression of pain has entered grappling’s popular culture - the ‘Moonsault’, courtesy of Lita. Barely a year after being launched (litarally) into the WWF arena, Lita a flame-haired beauty has set hearts racing and was recently voted Diva Of The Year. “I was actually shocked” she says in her strangely demure manner. “They call me the anti-diva Diva. After all, there can’t be too many divas with pink hair and piercing”. But the fawning fans and tattoos are all a long way from Fort Lauderdale, Florida where the fledgling Lita, then known by her real name of Amy Dumas, use to drive for hours to fights for the chance to earn a pittance. “I’d get 20 bucks for a night’s work” she explains. “But it wasn’t for the money. It was for the experience- the chance to try out moves, to work with crowd, however small. It was an hellacious time”. When she arrives at the WWF last year (“I just bugged’em with my show-tapes untill they gave in”) she walked into the arenas of America with a confident swaggfer. Buoyed by her experiences in small-town halls and gyms , she was soon in a tag team with The Rock-the people’s hero. “It was cool” says Lita “The Rock would get Trish Stratus down with a spinebuster and i’d finish her off with my moonsalt!” Ah yes, Lita bone-crunching move. In her performing her stock-in-trade move. But the Moonsault is quite a sight. From the top of the ring, she launches her 5’10 frame in the air, flips over and lands on her opponent. It’s impressive, but damm-it’s got to hurt. So after the moonsault and WWF stardom, what does Lita have plannes next? “Right now I’m just living in the moment” insists the new diva. “But I’m always tring to think up new ways to send the fans home reeling” Please credit Dumas Fan if you use this in other places |
